Megyn Kelly pulled her children out of a highly expensive private school because it went all the way “woke”. She found out that teachers within school were circulating this type of material ““There is a killer cop sitting in every school where white children learn,” the material states. “They gleefully soak in their whitewashed history that downplays the holocaust of indigenous native peoples and Africans in the Americas. They happily believe their all-white spaces exist as a matter of personal effort and willingly use violence against black bodies to keep those spaces white.”
The issue in these posts are that assumptions and anecdotal evidence is felt as facts and then is instituted as the basis for new forms of education. Further, looking at a few data points and extrapolating that and stating that it is representative of all data points is also dangerous. That is quite certainly problematic, especially in the United States, a country that serves as a melting pot.
Going with the Woke Flow Doesn’t Make Sense At A Certain Point
Pulling her children out of the private school is not surprising. What would you do if you found out you are spending quite a bit of money on your children’s education, only to find that they are learning why Dr. Seuss is racist instead of the actual fundamentals that matter. You know, like science, technology, engineering, and math? The fundamentals that children in China seem to have a higher grasp of, which they use to further the development of the Chinese economy.
That is startling because that means that they are spending an exorbitant amount of money to learn from a “woke curriculum” instead of a solid curriculum that helps to advance universal knowledge, technology, and overall societal advancement. If you are spending a great deal of money on your child’s education, you expect it to be a worthwhile investment. You expect your children to have knowledge of present and historical matters, and expect them to be leading contributing members of society.
But if children continue to learn about the latest outrage, and ideas that are shared by a small group of people who impose these ideas and philosophies on children, that poses a significant problem.
For one, how do you know that your children are learning what they need to learn to survive within the world and be valuable members of society? Or do you accept that a key part of surviving in the new world is not by contributing from an engineering, science, mathematical, or other productive way but rather being the most “woke” individual in the room?
Further, does that mean that those who are taught in the ways of the woke would know how to navigate the world, say the right words, and continue to ascend over those that do not?
But the issue is even more problematic for society. The rise of “woke” politics creates more division in a time where more unity is necessary to build a more prosperous country. If children continue to learn that they are evil and that ““white school districts across the country [are] full of future killer cops” in addition to finding that Dr. Seuss is racist, then you create more members of society who grow up with a cancel culture mindset instead of unification and productive mindset.
Should You Pull Your Children Out Of Similar Schools?
You must understand the culture, the temperament, and the overall principles present at the school. Then you must figure out how you want to your children to grow up and what type of essential values that they should possess as they grow into adults. Remember to define what matters to you, discuss that with your children, and make the moves the make the most sense.
Homeschooling may be an option for some or switching schools maybe another option.
Choose what works for you.
